Three occupied rows with distinct counts
Choose6,7 or8 hazards on a4×4 board. Exactly three rows contain hazards; their positive hazard counts are all different. The fourth row is empty. Counts are1/2/3 for6;1/2/4 for7;1/3/4 for8, in any row order. All2304/576/384legal layouts respectively are equally likely andfixed during a round.
Initial and updated safe probabilities
With6 hazards, row A cells1,2,3;row B cells1,2;row C cell1 is legal, withcounts3/2/1 andemptyrowD. Rowswith2/2/2 hazards areillegal becausecountsrepeat. Beforeanyreveal eachcell is safe with probability(16−hazards)/16; later probabilities use only compatible layouts andcanriseorfall.
Exact conditional value
Live value starts at 0.97 times the virtual stake. A safe reveal divides it by that cell’s exact conditional safe probability among the remaining compatible legal layouts. A hazard ends the round with zero return. Reveals change knowledge, not the hidden layout.
Collect and eligible choices
Collect is available after a safe reveal. Proven hazards are unavailable; proven-safe cells have probability 1 and add no value. A choice with next value above 1000 times stake is unavailable. When no eligible uncertain choice remains, the current value is banked automatically. The guard is not a promise that 1000×stake can be reached.
Expected return and variance
Exact expected return is 97% for permitted stopping policies. The initial 3% reduction is applied once; conditional safe-branch compensation preserves expectation. Choosing coordinates or stopping changes risk and variance, not this expectation. A short session is not guaranteed to match it.

What are the three occupied-row counts?

How is value calculated?
Live value starts at 0.97 times the virtual stake. A safe reveal divides it by that cell’s exact conditional safe probability among the remaining compatible legal layouts. A hazard ends the round with zero return. Reveals change knowledge, not the hidden layout.
